Be Prepared for the Worst

Understanding Windshield Damage in Colorado

Living in Colorado, you know it's bound to happen. You're driving down the highway, and a stray rock flies up and chips your windshield. That small chip can quickly turn into a large crack, obstructing your view and compromising your safety. We get it. It's frustrating and, unfortunately, almost inevitable.

At Pure Finish in Northglenn, CO, we understand the frustration. A cracked windshield isn't just an eyesore; it’s a safety hazard and a magnet for fix-it tickets. While we can’t stop the gravel trucks from dropping rocks, we can definitely fix the mess they leave behind. We provide top-tier windshield replacement services to get you back on the road with a clear view and your sanity intact.

The Windshield is a Structural Hero in Disguise

Most people think of their windshield as a simple shield against wind and bugs. While it is excellent at stopping bugs from hitting your teeth, its job is actually much more important. Your windshield is a critical structural component of your vehicle.

Keeping the Roof Up

Think of it as the backbone of your car’s cabin. In the unfortunate event of a rollover accident, the windshield provides up to 60% of the structural integrity of the roof. If that glass is compromised by a crack or a poor installation, the roof is much more likely to collapse. That is a terrifying thought, right?

The Airbag’s Unsung Partner

Furthermore, your passenger-side airbag relies on the windshield to deploy correctly. When that airbag goes off, it bounces off the glass to cushion the passenger. If the windshield pops out because it was glued in poorly or the glass was weak, the airbag shoots out the window, and your passenger is left unprotected.

That is why we don’t mess around with "quick fixes" or cutting corners. When we replace a windshield, we are restoring the safety cage of your vehicle. We treat every replacement with the seriousness it deserves because your safety is literally riding on it.

OEM vs. Aftermarket Glass

When it comes to replacing your glass, you generally have two options: OEM or Aftermarket. If you aren't a car nerd, you might be wondering what the difference is and why the price tags look different.

OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer)

This is glass made by the same manufacturer that made the original glass for your car (like PGW, Pilkington, or Saint-Gobain). It is identical to the glass your car rolled off the factory line with. It has the same thickness, the same tint, and the specific logo of your car brand stamped in the corner.

  • The Pro: You know it fits perfectly because it’s the original part.
  • The Con: It usually costs more because you are paying for the brand name.

Aftermarket (OEE - Original Equipment Equivalent)

This glass is made by reputable glass companies, often on the same assembly lines as the OEM glass, but it doesn't have the car manufacturer's logo on it. By law, it has to meet the same safety and quality standards as the original.

  • The Pro: It is significantly cheaper and meets all safety requirements.
  • The Con: Occasionally, there can be slight variations in tint or thickness, though high-quality aftermarket glass is nearly indistinguishable from OEM.

At Pure Finish, we offer both. If you are a purist who wants everything factory-perfect, we can source OEM glass. If you want to save some cash without sacrificing safety, we have high-quality aftermarket options. We are happy to walk you through the pros and cons for your specific vehicle so you can make the decision that fits your budget.

Controlled Environments for Perfect Results

For windshield replacement, we strictly require you to bring your vehicle to our shop in Northglenn. We aren't trying to be difficult. We are trying to be perfect.

Replacing a windshield requires a sterile, temperature-controlled environment to ensure the adhesive bonds correctly. If it’s too cold, the glue won’t cure. If it’s too humid, it affects the bond. If it’s windy, dust and debris can get trapped between the glass and the frame, causing leaks or rust issues down the road.

By doing this work in our shop, we control every variable. We have the proper lighting to ensure the glass is seated perfectly. We have level floors to ensure the frame doesn't twist during installation. It allows us to strip the old urethane cleanly, prime the metal properly to prevent rust (a huge issue with cheap installs), and set the new glass with absolute precision.

We know it’s a little less convenient than a van showing up at your office, but when it comes to a structural safety component, we prioritize quality over convenience every single time.

The Modern Complication: ADAS Calibration

If your vehicle was made in the last few years, it probably has ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance Systems). This includes things like lane departure warning, automatic emergency braking, and rain-sensing wipers. Pure Finish in Northglenn, CO ensures none of these functions are tampered with when installing a new windshield.

Precision Matters with Replacement Glass

Replacing your car's glass is more than just swapping out a damaged piece. A new lens, even off by a single millimeter, can disrupt advanced systems like lane-keep assist, potentially compromising your safety.

Windshield Replacement FAQ’s

  • How long does the replacement take?

The actual work usually takes about 60 to 90 minutes. However, the car needs to sit for another hour or so after the installation to allow the adhesive to cure safely before it can be driven. We recommend planning to be without your vehicle for about 3 to 4 hours to be safe.

  • Can I wash my car right after?

You need to wait at least 24 hours before taking your car through a high-pressure car wash. The water pressure can shift the glass before the glue is fully set. Hand washing is okay after 24 hours, but avoid the automatic tunnels for a couple of days.

  • What about the stickers on my old windshield?

We do our absolute best to transfer your stickers (oil change reminders, park passes, toll passes) to the new windshield. Sometimes, old stickers fall apart when we try to peel them, but if they are salvageable, we will move them over for you.

  • Will my insurance cover this?

In many cases, yes. Colorado doesn't mandate free windshield replacement like some states, but if you have comprehensive coverage, it often covers glass. You will likely have to pay your deductible. We can help you understand the process, but checking with your agent is always a good first step.
